C1-C8 Pittsylvania and Montgomery
Introduction:
This group has five BigY results descended from a parent SNP R-A274 that is over 4,000 years old. As yet no links to Europe.
Over this vast expanse of time between 2200BCE and 1700CE sits our first Burgess SNP R-BY60815. This block is huge with over 40 variants within it. Recent test results in November of 2023 between 3rd cousins descended from Benjamin Burgess of Montgomery County Maryland have finally split out a sub-branch labelled R-FTD7956. This sub-branch is thought to have arisen around the 1800s.
The three remaining BigY results are in the parent SNP R-BY60815 and split between an NPE carrying a different surname of unknown origin, a line out of Calhoun County and a line out of Williamsburg S.C. The line out of Williamsburg discovered in June of 2024 and that of Calhoun are closest to each other at a divergence of 4 SNPs. The NPE line is twice as far with a divergence of 8 SNPs. However because this SNP block is so large with 46 equivalent SNPs it offers little information on the divisions that surely exist within it for our related Burgess lines.
We have, as yet, no testers from the very large Pittsylvania or other lines. As yet no link to the other Pittsylvania line, the STR markers seem to rule out a connection. There are no Big Y testers in this other group.

Research Objectives:
1. Obtain BigY testers from the Pittsylvania County line. While there are many testers, they are all low resolution tests. Upgrading some of these will likely identify other signature familial SNPs and break down the large BY60815 block.
2. Obtain BigY test results for the Laclede County line, only 2 low resolution tests have been done. Upgrading some of these will likely identify other signature familial SNPs and break down the large BY60815 block.
2. Obtain BigY results from the Monongalia County line, only 1 low resolution tests has been done. Upgrading will likely identify other signature familial SNPs and break down the large BY60815 block.
3. The James Cooke line already tested Big Y and belongs to the large BY60815 block. Testing other Lines may yield a new SNP and indicate which line this one is close too.
4. Find a link in the old country.
