E1-E2 Burgess of Pittsylvania and Union Co.

As yet, no BigY testers in this group. One member has SNP tested down to R-Z30600. This SNP is very old and emerged around 2000 BCE. There are currently 117 men outside our project who have tested and 65 known branches that descend from this SNP. Given this coverage outside the project we would probably have good resolution for testers that come forward. The closest Ancient DNA result is found in Scotland around 2500 BCE. This would be consistent with the origins of this line being in the north of the UK. Families that descend from Z30600 include Armstrong, Kirkpatrick and Reed. There appear to be many Scottish connections.

Project members: 16
Terminal SNP: R-Z30600

Ancestral Families:

Thomas Burgess Sr. of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Terminal SNP: R-Z30600
John Burgess of Union Co., South Carolina

Research objectives:

1. Require at least two BigY testers to bring the Y-DNA results into a genealogical time frame.

2. Ideally one BigY tester from each of the three branches of Thomas from Pittsylvania and 2 branches of John of Union County.
