Jehu John Burgess of Fulton County, Illinois
[Haplotype R - BY60815 ,Genetic Group: C1-C8 Pittsylvania and Montgomery]
Jehu John Burgess was born about 1801 in most likely South Carolina. He married Letitia (Lettie) Jane Harwick (1799-1881) before 1820 in presumably White County, Tennessee. He is listed on the 1820 census for White Co., Tennessee as John Burgess, along with his father-n-law Jacob Harwick (listed as Jacob Harrick). He is also listed in the TN US Early Tax Records in White County, Capt. Yeager’s District along with his father and brother-n-law, Jacob and Nicholas Harwick. There is a John Burges that is listed in the 1830 Edgar Co., Illinois census that fits the family of John and Lettie but has not been specifically identified as such. He is not found on the 1840 census, but his widow Letitia is listed as Letty Birge in Fulton Co., Illinois on the same page as her brother, Jacob Harwick Jr.
After Y-DNA and autosomal DNA testing and further research, it is believed that Jehu (he was listed as Jehu on at least one record) John Burgess is most likely the son of Josiah Burgess born 1783-1787 in Pennsylvania and found in the 1850 census of Jackson Co., Tennessee age 64 with his new wife Mary Holiman.
