Carter and Thomas Burgess of Greenville Co., South Carolina

[Haplotype I- S7753]

Note: This family is genetically related to:

John Burgess of Rutherford Co., North Carolina

Carter Burgess and Thomas Burgess can be found in the Greenville SC census of 1820 and 1830. Members of the family can also be found in the Brushy Creek Baptist Church minutes around the 1830 timeframe.  The father of Thomas and Carter is unknown, although Matthew Burgess found in the 1810 Greenville County SC census is a strong candidate to be their father.  Both brothers moved to Dekalb County Alabama in the early 1830s.  Thomas and Carter married 2 daughters of George Ross.  Four descendants of these lines have matched to each other.
