J1 Anne Arundel
The Colonel William line is one of the founding lines of America and many genealogists have tried to connect their Burgess ancestors to this family. The DNA of this line however remain distinct and no other Burgess family at present connects to this one. As it stands we have 4 BigY results, only one can document their line back to the founding father. His nearest match is a non-Burgess descended from a Clark line. It is estimated they share a common ancestor within the last 250-350 years, The other Burgess lines don't connect. The orange line of Edward matches the orange line at the bottom under John but their connection remains unknown. The green line at the bottom is also related but it appears very distantly and this is where the non-matching variants appears to show a much wider gap with the block tree below.
The SNP common to the testers is dated to about 1700CE and is part of a rather larger block of equivalent SNPs. Given the size of this SNP block it spans a wide expanse of time. Interestingly while the average private variants is 1, the raw data shows that between the 4 matches there are a total of 5 distinct SNPs with one match having a high of 3 and another having 0.

Research Objectives:
1. Obtain BigY results from another one of the documented lines back to Colonel William, Ideally from a line other than Edward.
2. The closest matches for S Burgess and JM Burgess suggest descent through William/Edward, but this is tentative given the high number of non-matching variants between the testers. BigY testing DBT Burgess would help as he is also a descendant of this line.
