Robert Burgar Sr. was born about 1754, possibly in the Shetland Islands, Dunrossness Co., Scotland. He may be a brother or cousin of John Burgar of London, England. He married Susanna Davis on 5 April 1774 at St. Leonards Parish, Shoreditch, London, England, signing as “Robert Burgear.” He is listed in the Poor Rate Summoning Books for this parish from 1793-1802. He died in 1820 (buried on 23 December 1820) at St. Leonards, Shoreditch, London, having had four sons:
1. Robert Burgar Jr. (1776-1849) of London, England; extinct in the male line
2. John Burgar I (1780-1836) of London, England; extinct in the male line
3. Benjamin Burgar (1783?-1835) of London, England; extinct in the male line
4. Walter Burgar Sr. (1790?-1832+) of Nottingham, England

Walter Burgar Sr. was born about 1790 in London, England. He married Mary Kent on 15 August 1819 at St. Modwen Parish, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire Co., England. He worked as a shoemaker (a profession followed by many of his family) and a cordwainer. By 1831 he was living at Nottingham, England, and disappeared during a cholera epidemic there in late 1831 or early 1832. He had five sons:
1. Walter Burgar Jr. (1821-1834), died young
2. John Burgar II (1824-1826), died young
*3. Edwin Burgar (1827-1871) of Yorkshire Co., England
4. George Burgar (1828-1829), died young
5. William Burgar (1829-1829), died young

Edwin Burgar was born about 1827 at St. Mary Parish, Nottingham, England. He married Emma Fearn on 21 May 1849 at St. Peter’s Church, Derby, Derbyshire Co., England. He is listed in 1841-51 censuses of Derby, Derbyshire Co., England, and in 1861 at Court, Fargate, Sheffield, Yorkshire Co., England. He died there early in 1871 (before the census was taken), having had four sons:
1. Andrew Edwin Burgar (1857-1898) of Yorkshire Co., England
2. William Edward Burgar (1861-1943) of Yorkshire Co., England
3. Albert Edward Burgar (1863-1927) of Yorkshire Co., England
4. Frank Burgar (1868-1919) of Hartford Co., Connecticut
Andrew Edwin Burgar is the ancestor of A. Burgar.
Test results received from one representative in this line match the numbers of the descendants of John Burgar of Dunrossness Co., Scotland, John Burgar of London, England, and Robert Burgar of Dunrossness Co., Scotland; they have a common male ancestor, name unknown. However, they do not currently match the numbers of any other Burgess Project member.
