John Burgess I was born about 1812 in Llansantffraid, Montgomeryshire Co., Wales. He married Jane __ by 1841 in Montgomeryshire Co. He is listed in the 1841-51 censuses for Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire Co., Wales, working as a butcher. He apparently died there about 1855, having had four sons:

Second Branch: John Burgess II

 

John Burgess II was born about 1845 at Guilsfield, Montgomery Co., Wales. He married Eliza H. Perry about 1868. He is listed in the 1861-1901 censuses for Montgomeryshire Co., Wales, working as a publican at the Butcher’s Arms. He died on 9 April 1928 (age 83) at Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire Co., Wales (buried with his wife in the Llandrinio Churchyard), having had seven sons:

First Son of John II

 

Albert Charles Burgess Sr. was born on 23 March 1868 at Pool Middle, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire Co., Wales. He emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1886 (according to the 1900 census). He married Margaret Brosnahan in 1892 at Boston. He was a coachman. He returned to Liverpool, England, on 14 September 1899, with his son, John, with his occupation listed as a fireman, and supposedly opened a pub there, but by 11 November 1901 had returned again to Massachusetts, when he appears in the U.S. Naturalization Indexes. Listed in the 1900 census for Boston, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, but has not been found in any later census; his widow appears as head of the family from 1920-30 in Suffolk Co. (but has not been found in 1910); she sailed to England with her family, arriving at Liverpool on 8 April 1905, and then going to her native Ireland; she returned to Massachusetts on 7 October 1910; Albert is not with her on either occasion. According to family legend, Albert died when he was kicked in the head by a horse. He may be the Albert Charles Burgess recorded as dying in the first quarter of 1904 at Barton Regis, Gloucestershire, outside of Bristol, England. He had had four sons:

2. John Joseph Burgess (1896-1909) of Llandrinio, Montgomeryshire Co., Wales; he returned with his father to Wales, and drowned there in the River Severn while bathing
3. George Edward Burgess II (1899-1957)
4. Alfred Michael Edward Burgess (1904-1962)

 

Albert Charles Burgess Jr. is the ancestor of S. G. Burgess.
