John Burgess was born about 1816 at Tabley, Altrincham District, Cheshire Co., England. He married firstly Hannah __ about 1834 (she died in 1851 at Congleton, Northwich, Cheshire Co.), and secondly Alice (Young?) by 1861. He is listed in the 1841 census for Bowdon, Altrincham, Cheshire Co., England, in 1851 at Pickmere, Altrincham, Cheshire Co., England, in 1861 at Runcorn, Cheshire Co., England, and in 1871 at Widnes, Lancashire Co., England. He apparently died before 1881 (possibly in late 1871 in Cheshire Co.), having had at least six sons:

4. Edwin Burgess (1846- ) of Northwich, Cheshire Co., England

Charles Henry Burgess is the ancestor of P. Burgess.
