Richard Burgess of Tasmania, Australia

Richard Burgess was born about 1796 at Maresfield, Frant Parish, Sussex Co., England. He may have been the brother of William Burgess (1795-1851+) of Maresfield. He was transported aboard the ship Lady Castlereagh to Sydney, Australia, arriving there on 11 June 1818, and resettled at Hobart, Tasmania, later that year. He married firstly Johannah Saunders on 26 April 1826, and secondly Jane Jarman about 1845. He worked as a fisherman and boat builder. He died on 29 August 1855 at Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, having had three sons:

William Burgess Sr. was born 7 August 1824 at Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He married firstly Sarah Jarman on 8 September 1847, and secondly Sarah Jane Nash on 3 March 1864. He died on 15 December 1895 at Stanley, Tasmania, having had eight sons, seven by his first wife, and one by his second:
