VIRGINIA
WILLS AND ESTATES
FOR INDIVIDUALS NAMED BURGESS

Note:  Virginia Wills and Administrations, 1632-1800, was compiled by Clayton Torrence in 1930.  It included all known Virginia probates prior to 1800, including wills, inventories, administrators’ bonds, and nuncupative (verbal) wills.  However, perhaps a third of the Virginia counties have lost all or part of their records, due to wars, misplacement of books, and/or fires, and so the records listed here are necessarily incomplete.  It should also be noted that only those individuals actually owning some significant amount of property (usually real estate) had probates filed.
