PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX LISTS

 

Note:  the 1783 list records the number of whites and the number of slaves.  The 1784 list records the number of white males, slaves over the age of 16, slaves under the age of 16, horses, and cattle. The 1785 list records the number of whites, the number of dwelling places, and other buildings.  The 1787 list records the number of white males aged 16-21, slaves over the age of 16, slaves under the age of 16, horses, and cattle.  From 1790 the lists record:  number of white males over the age of 16, slaves over the age of 16, slaves under the age of 16, and horses.  The levy of 1808 was never taken.  The county was occasionally split into two districts.  The numbering of these districts was not consistent from year to year.
